Saeki Teru, for at least once a day, had always thought about the girl he had kissed when he was small. Sometimes, he’d even ask himself why he did it; perhaps it was because he was just an emotion-driven, confused child when that happened. That, or because the girl reminded him of a mermaid. A confused mermaid...

She was beautiful, and her tears tore little Teru’s heart to pieces back then. However, she then moved away, and Teru had promised her that if it’s him, he would be able to find her again—unlike the tale of the man who didn’t come back from his search to find the mermaid.

Teru sighed as he put off his glasses. It was a tale from more than a few years ago, yet the memory still stuck to him as if a magnet. Now, he’d only remember little when it comes to the girl’s face, and even then, he’s sure that she’s all grown up now—she was his age, after all—and only God knows how much she has changed since years ago.

Sometimes it irritated him to no end; not knowing where she is now. Perhaps it was because he had promised to find her again.

He was, and always will be number one Mr. Hate-To-Lose, after all; and  a promise’s sometimes similar to an unfulfilled challenge.

For him, at least.
